Abstract

This study explores the communication management practiced by psychologists in counseling adolescents with depression. Using a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method, the research examines how therapeutic communication is managed to support the recovery process of adolescents. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation with relevant informants. The findings reveal that effective communication management involves psychologists' self-preparation, building empathetic relationships with adolescents, and addressing communication barriers during counseling sessions, which relevant with management communication theory Michael Kaye used in this study. The study also highlights the importance of using flexible and responsive approaches to meet the emotional needs of adolescents. These findings contribute to the development of more holistic and communication-based counseling practices in addressing adolescent depression.
