Abstract
The bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis is the cause of the chronic infectious illness tuberculosis. Ten percent of all TB cases occur in Indonesia, making it the country with the second-highest TB prevalence worldwide. Preventing tuberculosis is hampered by a lack of awareness about how to stop the disease from spreading among household contacts. Analyzing how audiovisual education affects the rise in knowledge among TB patients' home contacts is the goal of this study. A quasi-experimental design with a single group pre-test and post-test is the study methodology employed. There were 140 samples in this study that received their education through media audiovisual. Before and after the intervention, the respondent’s knowledge was assessed using a validity and reliability-tested questionnaire. The Wilcoxon test results, which have a p-value < 0.05, indicate a significant improvement in knowledge following audiovisual education. The respondents were primarily late adults (36–45 years old), female, and had a high school diploma as their greatest level of schooling and most of the respondent’s were a wife. The awareness of household contacts of pulmonary tuberculosis is greatly impacted by audiovisual education on TB transmission prevention. Following the implementation of the intervention, audio-visual education was successful in raising household contact’s knowledge from the sufficient category to the good realm. According to the study's findings, audiovisual materials can help pulmonary tuberculosis patient’s household connections grow their understanding of how to stop the spread of.
